The Challenge
This particular project is situated around the northern section of Norwich. It runs from the A1067 by Attlebridge, goes through A1151 near Rackheath and ends at the A47 and A1042 crossover.
So the aim of the scheme is to reduce congestion and traffic flow on the strategic routes throughout the north part of the city.
The project also has several other objectives including reducing noise pollution, improved access to the north and north east of Norfolk and as a result, supporting the continued success of the Norwich economy.
The Solution
Within this scheme, we worked closely with Balfour Beatty to undertake the VRS, general and acoustic fencing works on the project. All our work is expected to total £3 million.
A key factor for us throughout the duration of the NNDR has been our general fencing works. These include the acoustic barriers, which in particular, will help to meet one of the main scheme objectives, reducing noise pollution.
We offer a wide range of acoustic barriers which allow us to meet any specification. The type of barrier we will install will been used on many other major projects as well as this one.
The Result
One key ability of Arbus is that we aim to solve any problem our client encounters. On the North Norwich Distributor Road project, our general fencing department constructed seven bat bridges. These helped towards reducing the environmental impact of the scheme on local wildlife.
At the start of the project, bat bridges were not an item we were experienced with, however, we were able to adapt and have since installed a number of bat bridges to a high standard.
During this scheme, we have also been responsible for replacing the northern boundary security fence for the Norwich International Airport. As a result, working in and around major airports is something we are used to as we have previously worked around other main airports including Gatwick and Heathrow.
