The Project

Preston Park Velodrome

Over recent years, British cycling has been incredibly successful which has prompted increased interest in the sport.

From this, large amounts of money have been invested into cycling to improve standards throughout the UK, which is where we come in.

One of our biggest velodrome projects to date was the Preston park Velodrome.

The historic site is one of the oldest velodromes in the UK and was highlighted by the British cycling authorities as an urgent need for improvements to its safety.

? Location: Preston Park Velodrome, Brighton and Hove, UK

The Challenge

Preston Park Velodrome had fallen into disrepair over the years but with the resurgence in cycling popularity was getting increased use which presented a safety issues.

The existing fencing was dilapidated and did not meet the British Cycling safety standards so in order to bring the site up to standard and allow safe usage for years to come a full perimeter safety fence solution was required.

The new fence would need to be tailored to suit the specific requirements of the site whilst meeting all the required safety standards set out by British Cycling.

The Solution

Arbus were able to offer a bespoke solution based on experience from other projects and expert knowledge of the required standards.

A full perimeter safety fence was designed and installed to suit the specific conditions and contours of the site along with suitable gated access points and bespoke fixing methods around the perimeter of the track.

The existing dilapidated fencing was removed and replaced with minimal disruption to the site and with particular care taken to preserve the historic fabric of the track for future users.

The Result

After a short installation period the site was able to re-open with full confidence that the track was up to British Cycling standards and was safe to use for members of the public and cycling clubs alike for many years to come.

Preston Park Velodrome is a cycling destination for Brighton once again and many of the events that were previously not safe to carry out at this site are now back and cyclists from the local area and beyond are benefiting from this.

Arbus were able to offer a full service from original site survey, through design and drawing approval, to final installation to allow this to happen.
