The Project

Thurrock TMC Henderson & Taylor

The Thurrock Term Maintenance Contract has been in operation for several years now. Presently, Arbus work on repairing the vehicle restraint barriers at road traffic incident (RTI) sites.

Our works are required to be undertaken with traffic management implemented for safety to the work force and road users. These works are often carried out at night or off peak hours during the day to minimise disruption.

? Location: A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme

The Challenge

When we are involved in new installation works within Thurrock, we are often the designers for the project as well as the installers.

So, this means that we undertake RRRAP assessments on the proposed barrier locations. We then submit CAD drawings of the recommended system for the type of road and hazards within the area of concern.

This was the second repair at this location due to a vehicle hitting the barrier at high speed, and as a result, uprooted the barrier and its foundations.

The Solution

In this instance a ‘like for like’ repair was the preferred solution. We worked closely with Henderson & Taylor to ensure crash repair works are attended and undertaken as soon as possible.

Running this project from our Burwell depot in Cambridgeshire, we have easy access to the Thurrock TMC project.

As this was the second time that the barrier and its oversized foundations where completely displaced, the solution was to install the posts and anchors into a continuous ground beam foundation to stop this issue.

The Result

Arbus successfully repaired the damaged barrier during restrictive hours traffic management from 9.30am to 3.30pm to allow normal traffic flow during peak times.

The installation of the posts and anchors into a continuous ground beam, has been a very successful solution here and on previous projects.

Alongside these types of everyday repairs, we also undertake condition based surveys.
