The Project

A14 NRTS Scheme

Running through Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, the A14 is a major trunk road which is vital to many major cities in the UK. It acts as one of the most important roads for transporting goods in and out of the major port of Felixstowe.

? Location: Various A14 Locations

The Challenge

The A14 provides vital road transport between the West Midlands and East Anglia, and is of local, regional, national and international significance.

The section between Cambridge and Huntingdon carries a high level of commuter as well as long-distance traffic and provides a strategic link between the A1 and the M11 motorway.

The Solution

Working with Balfour Beatty, we completed our VRS works at over 150 locations along the highway. Working through the night and to tight deadlines, we finished each phase of the scheme on time and to specification.

Due to the prominence of the road and the high volume of traffic that the A14 carries, finishing our night works on time was something of great importance to all the projects stakeholders as it would allow the road to return to full working order during daytime hours.

The Result

With our Newmarket depot roughly in the middle of the A14 we have good access to the entire A14, the surrounding areas and it’s extending roads. So subsequently this makes it easy for us to work anywhere along the road and offer efficient delivery of any works within the area.

As a result these benefits have helped us win countless of other major schemes along the road and its surrounding areas.
